KCS News Details

Dear KCS Families,

We had soooo much fun this morning at Friday Morning Meeting (FMM)! Of course, we missed all of you, but it was so nice to have all of the students and staff together in one place celebrating together! Mrs. Roper’s class led everyone in singing the school song. Some of our students are just learning that song, but everyone did great following along. Then, we introduced all classes and staff members. Mrs O announced that we want to bring back morning recess. So, we are going to brainstorm ways to ensure that it can be both safe and fun. Mrs. Roper recognized our 5th grade math team students who had some great finishes this year. Mrs. O’Donnell helped us make rain! If you don’t know how we can make rain at KCS’ FMM, ask your child about it. Also, you should ask them about how we celebrated birthdays at the end. We look forward to welcoming you back to FMM at some point, but for now hopefully this summary helps you to stay informed. We can’t wait until next week’s FMM!

Have you recently bought your child their own cell phone? Are you considering buying one in the near future?  Would you like to create a healthy balance of cell phone and tech use for your child?  Dr. Delaney Ruston is a physician and filmmaker who decided to further explore child/teen technology use on both a personal and professional level.  Dr. Ruston's documentary is called Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age and will be shown at KHS on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30. Please click HERE for more information and to watch the trailer. Registration is available, but not required. This is a FREE event sponsored by EFKA.  We hope to see many of our families there!  HERE is a link to further explore the research on children and screen-time use.

Field Day: The end of the school year is fast approaching.  All KCS students will be participating in Field Day activities on Wednesday, June 8th (with a rain date of Friday, June 10th).  Volunteers are an integral part of our field day, and we hope to be able to have some volunteers help us on that day. As of May 1st, we are now allowed to have parents visit and volunteer in the school setting. But, we may need to limit the number of parent volunteers who can participate at any given time, since we are not supposed to have group gatherings yet.  If you’re interested in volunteering for field day, please fill out this form by May 31st.  (  We look forward to welcoming you back to KCS! Thank you for your support!

Just a reminder that the Annual District Budget Meeting is next Monday evening, Monday, May 16th at 7 PM, in the Kennebunk Elementary School gymnasium. The meeting will be live-streamed, however, if you plan to join remotely you will not be able to participate in the meeting or vote on the warrant articles. Please find the Annual Report and Warrant Articles (pages 31-34) here for review. Hope to see you all there!

Circus smirkus returns to Kennebunkport! Mark your calendars: Aug 9th & 10th at 1:00 & 6:00. Thanks to KCPTA for bringing back the circus! If you're new to KCS, Circus Smirkus is our KCPTA's one fundraiser each year. We have not had circus for a couple of years due to COVID restrictions. The event takes considerable time from all members of our school community. Please, consider helping in some way... whether that's selling tickets ahead of time or helping with parking and taking tickets at the door. It's an all hands on deck type of thing. Also, you will want to see the performance, so plan to attend and see this spectacular show! If you’re unfamiliar with Circus Smirkus and want to learn more, click here

In case you missed this info last week…

The district is continuing to monitor the number of COVID cases in our schools and community as we make decisions about our COVID precautionary measures. Starting this week, we are now mixing students across classes inside. That means that we can more freely group students with similar needs across classes for instructional purposes. In addition, we can bring classes together for activities such as book buddies. We are very excited to announce that our beloved Friday Morning Meetings will be returning next week on May 13th! Unfortunately, we will not be able to invite parents into the school for FMM to join us yet. So, it won’t be quite the same without all of you, but we will at least be able to gather all of our students and staff members together as a community. Our teams of teachers are deciding if they want to take their classes on a field trip to KCT this spring, and we’re hoping that we’ll have the bus capacity to make those trips happen. Lastly, we can now invite visitors and volunteers into the school building. We are not yet hosting parent gatherings or groups of parents for events, but we can invite individuals in for read alouds or guest speakers, etc.
