About KCS
Welcome to the Kennebunkport Consolidated School! If you’re looking for an innovative, community-centered school that works to nurture the whole child and teach lifelong strategies, you have found it. KCS serves students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Our beautiful location is steps away from Kennebunkport’s Dock Square and close to the beaches, shopping and so much more in coastal Maine. We are part of Maine Regional School Unit 21, which includes Kennebunkport, Kennebunk, and Arundel. Our school vision is "We love to learn together!"
We believe in promoting a positive environment which enhances student responsibility, self-esteem, and mutual respect for all. In all aspects of school we try to be flexible, to treasure the individuality and diversity of our students, to foster their creativity and to encourage self-expression. In this way we hope to touch the lives of our students – not only academically, but socially and emotionally as well. Our priority character traits include STARS success skills: show empathy, try your best, act with integrity, respect differences, and show self-control.
The school year offers many opportunities to provide quality learning experiences for all students. We embark on many adventures as a learning community that fosters curiosity, respect, responsibility, honesty, courage, and compassion. The KCS staff members provide your children with stimulating and challenging educational opportunities throughout the school year. We provide a safe, nurturing environment, which supports and encourages the intellectual, social, and emotional development of our students. We believe the responsibility for learning is shared by students, teachers and parents. Together, we will continue to build a school of excellence through continuous school improvement.
Our beautiful school is located just outside the village center of Kennebunkport. Our incredible facility was renovated in 2016 to be conducive to 21st century learning standards. Our school offers full-day kindergarten, enrichment at all levels, and targeted personalized intervention instruction. Weekly allied arts classes for all students include art, music, physical education, library, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), and world language (Spanish). We have 1:1 chromebook access for all students, and we feature interactive whiteboards in each classroom. Optional enrichment activities include cross-country running for students in grades three through five, chorus for students in grades one through five, math team for fifth graders, and band for students in fifth grade. Each Friday morning at 8:30am, our entire school community gathers with families and community members who wish to join us to celebrate learning together. We encourage you to attend!
Kennebunkport Consolidated School strives for strong academic performance. Each year, our MEA state assessment data shows us performing well above state averages in both English language arts and mathematics. Similarly, our NWEA assessment scores show KCS students achieving above the national norms regularly. We offer a wide array of services including a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) for both academics and behavior, special education programming for a variety of needs, full time guidance/social work services, full-time nursing staff, and a strong determination to help all students find success.
Our school works collaboratively with a variety of community organizations including the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, who host multiple field trips for our students each year. Both the Kennebunkport Consolidated Parent Teacher Association (KCPTA) and the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel (EFKA) meet monthly. These organizations fund field trips, artists-in-residence, special events, and academic programs throughout the year.
